Excellence through leadership
Excellence through leadership is the core message and mission of the Association of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists (APCP). Our approach is underpinned by innovation, for our members, our community and our fellow professionals. We believe we have the foresight and the vision to contemplate the changing role of counselling and psychotherapy across all of society from dealing with those with addictions to those making stressful life changing decisions.
Members of the Association of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists can truly be considered as professionals, especially in relation to their training, qualifications and in their professional approach to their work.
Mission Statement
‘Through vision, innovation and leadership the Association of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists in Ireland will ensure as far as is practicable that standards of practice and services offered by members are of the highest quality. We are committed to ensuring that the ethical standards and professional training of our members is of the highest standard, independently accredited, validated and fit for professional purpose’
Our core function as a professional membership body is to promote the highest standards of professional practice among our professional members.
We are committed to reflecting these set of beliefs in our values and organisational practice. Therefore we work to realise our fundamental ethos of developing and encouraging excellence in all we do through Leadership. In brief then our credo can be expressed as ‘EXCELLENCE Through LEADERSHIP’.
Why Excellence – Excellence because we believe that in all professions excellence should be at the heart of all endeavours. Within the fields of Counselling and Psychotherapy APCP is committed to be a standard bearer for excellence. We are proud that we are the first body with both Counselling and Psychotherapy members which requires all members to meet the suggested educational and training requirements recommended by the Psychological Therapies Forum. While Psychotherapy bodies in Ireland also require the same Standards, we believe APCP is the only one with shared membership across the domains of Counselling and Psychotherapy which meets these exacting standards.
How Leadership – Counselling and Psychotherapy are areas of professional practice which are evolving and need to evolve even further. The counsellor and psychotherapist both need to engage in an evidence based approach with clients and society as a whole. Professional Counsellor or Psychotherapist members of APCP will be encouraged and supported to develop and operate evidence based methodology to their work and to the professions as a whole.
