APCP – Extending The Vision

The Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists is a Professional Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists from all modalities comprised of over 900 members. The Association is currently the only Professional Association for both Counsellors and Psychotherapists which requires that all accredited members must have educational qualifications at Bachelors level for those who are Accredited Counsellors and Masters level for those who are Accredited Psychotherapists. Professional members must have qualifications which are recognised within the National Qualification Framework in Ireland.

Membership demands that practitioners operate to the highest standards of professionalism within the relevant field, with members basing their practice on competencies acquired in their academic qualifications and evidence based principles within the relevant modality in the field of counselling and/or psychotherapy.
The Association envisages a society where counselling and psychotherapy contribute positively to society and base their practice on sound research and evidence.
APCP is committed to shaping and influencing the fields of counselling and psychotherapy in Ireland. It will support and contribute to the pursuit of knowledge, it will engage in innovative approaches to the structures and delivery of services, it will act as a professional ‘gatekeeper’ in monitoring professional education standards and it will work in collaboration with those involved in the delivery of people orientated services to achieve these goals.
We invite those interested in extending the vision and the practice of Counselling and Psychotherapy in Ireland to join us and contribute to ensuring these ambitions are fulfilled.

MEMBERSHIP is FREE, and APCP will proactively represent its members at all levels and facilitate their active engagement in the development of the professions.
