Latest News/Opportunities News Dear Member, We are currently working on a new Membership Management System; this will be accessed via a portal on our website. This will bring great additional features for members such as a Member’s Area where you can print off attended CPD attendance certs, log your CPD and downloadable Annual Membership certs for all levels of members. The CPD booking area will also be updated and a different payment system is being put in place which will be more intuitive to use for members. There will be onboarding and training available closer to the time of launch for all members and assistance will be offered from the developers to any queries issues we encounter. This system has the potential to grow with us and we can add features as we get familiar with it and as required. We are working on it at the moment with the developers and hope to have it live mid-January to end of January in time for the 2024 Renewal. If the timeline runs over, we will advise and keep you in the loop. Pleases note we will not be taking any renewals until the new system is up and running and your membership remains valid and in good standing until the renewal period is open. FAQ Faq 1: What are the origins of APCP? APCP has its origins in the National Counselling Institute of Ireland (NCII). NCII was founded in 1999 and similar to other professional bodies originally had two strands. It originally combined the functions of educational provider and professional body. In 2010, it was decided to split these two functions and this resulted in the renaming and reorganising of the professional body as APCP. Faq 2: How is APCP structured? APCP is a limited company with charitable status. APCP has a Board of Directors and an independent Executive Committee. Faq 3: Is APCP a recognised professional body? Yes, APCP sits on the Psychological Therapies Forum and has contributed to the development of work undertaken within this forum to advance standards and the regulation of practice of counsellors and psychotherapists within the profession. Faq 4: Who is eligible to join APCP? Anyone who is currently studying counselling and /or psychotherapy at third level on the Island of Ireland or is in practice having completed a third level qualification in the fields of counselling and/or is eligible to join if they meet the requirements noted under the different categories of membership and are approved to practice by the National Vetting Bureau. Faq 5: How do I become a member? You can download an application form from the website or alternatively you can speak to our administrator who can email it. Faq 6: How long does an application take before a decision is finalised? APCP’s accreditation committee meet four times per annum. Applicants can expect a decision approximately two weeks after this committee has met and once the decision has been verified by the executive. (see Appraisal sub committee meetings for dates). Faq 7: What are the costs of membership? Currently members (other than students) are required to submit €190 per annum which covers €40 administration charge and 2 CPD events, one of which is compulsory. ACCREDITATION APPEALS PROCEDURES When to appeal? If your application for accreditation as a counsellor/psychotherapist or supervisor has not been granted, you have the right to appeal against this decision. There are two positions upon which you can appeal the decision: That the assessment procedure or process has not been correctly adhered to; Your application has not been properly assessed against the published criteria. Please note that any disagreements with the accreditation committee’s decision or submission of new information are not grounds for appeal. APCP – Appeal Process You must submit your appeal in writing within 10 days of date letter was posted informing you of the decision of the unsuccessful application. You should write and send your appeal care of the accreditation committee in APCP. Your appeal must be specific as to the ground of your appeal. Representations or correspondence from 3rd parties will not be accepted. What happens next? Acknowledgement of receipt of appeal will be sent. The Accreditation committee will receive the appeal and application and appeal documents. The accreditation committee advise on their ruling and you will be notified of same along with a copy of their report. The decision of the accreditation committee is final. If your appeal is successful this does not necessarily mean you will become accredited – it really depends on what your appeal is about and what the findings of the panel are. We will let you know what it means for you when we send you the outcome of the appeal. Please Note: Unsuccessful application does NOT preclude from application the following year. If you do apply again, remember to tell us about this on the application form and send copies of any letters requested. This will be treated as an entirely new application. Get in Touch
